MOXIBUSTION
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that uses the therapeutic warmth of burning mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. In Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used to warm the channels, promote the circulation of Qi and Blood, dispel Cold, and support areas of weakness or deficiency. The gentle, penetrating warmth also makes it a valuable complement to acupuncture.
Uses and Benefits of Moxibustion:
Pain & Musculoskeletal Conditions: Moxibustion is commonly used for joint pain, muscle tension, stiffness, arthritis, and other conditions that improve with warmth. It is especially useful when pain or restriction is aggravated by cold.
Circulation & Recovery: The warming effect of moxibustion increases local circulation and warms the tissues, making it useful for areas of chronic tension, stiffness, and slow recovery.
Digestive Health: In Chinese medicine, moxibustion is frequently used to support digestion, abdominal comfort, and digestive function, particularly when symptoms are associated with weakness or cold.
Women’s & Reproductive Health: Moxibustion has a long history of use in Chinese medicine for menstrual discomfort, reproductive health, fertility support, and pregnancy-related care.
Vitality & General Wellness: Traditionally, moxibustion is also used to strengthen and warm the body, support resilience, and restore vitality, particularly in patients experiencing fatigue, weakness, or sensitivity to cold.
Moxibustion is often combined with acupuncture to provide both targeted needling and therapeutic warmth within the same treatment.
